The Mission organized Allama Iqbal Day to commemorate the philosophical work and poetry of Allama Iqbal in Wellington on 18 November 2018. The event was well attended by the Pakistani community residing in Wellington and Palmerston North regions. The Iranian Ambassador to New Zealand was especially invited to speak on this occasion. Several Iranian diplomats along with their families and Iranian students living in Wellington also attended the event. Representatives of the City Council and a senior Professor of linguistics from the Massey University also attended.

Several speakers from the Pakistan community spoke at length on Iqbal's poetry and his message to Muslims and humanity at large. Dr. Mansoor Shafi, a renowned scientist and the keynote speaker at the event, spoke on “;Iqbal’s message to humanity and Muslims in the Javed nama”. A selection of Iqbal’s poems in Urdu and Persian language were also recited during the event.

High Commissioner Dr. Abdul Malik also addressed the gathering and reminded that Iqbal is the spiritual father of Pakistan and was instrumental in inspiring the Pakistan movement. He spoke at length on “how to regain the spirit of Iqbal”, and recalled Iqbal’s emphasis on building a strong character, benefits of modern education and better understanding and implementation of Holy Qur’an in our lives.
