Donations for Rain/Floods victims in Pakistan Torrential monsoon rains causing flash floods in the southern parts of Pakistan, especially, the Sindh Province, have wreaked havoc. The entire Sindh province has been badly affected by rains resulting in flooding of 4.5 million acres of land, 5.3 million people displaced and loss of 361 previous lives. The federal and the provincial Governments have mobilized all national resources and established 2938 relief camps and have undertaken round the clock full-fledged Rescue and Relief Operations in the Affected Areas. The scale of catastrophe necessitates immediate humanitarian assistance to meet the challenge to provide winter shelter, food, water, medicines and sanitation equipment to the affected people. As the devastation caused by heavy rains/floods is much beyond our national resources, the Government of Pakistan appealed to the international community through the United Nations to provide assistance for the millions of people affected by relentless spell of monsoon rains. The UN Office for Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), has launched a flash appeal for help too. The High Commission has set up a “Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund 2011” to collect contributions.
